Rain hits Dubai and the northern emirates

Al Ain: A thunderstorm with heavy showers on Sunday morning hit Abu Dhabi and some parts of Dubai and other emirates, pushing the mercury further down.
It was a sudden development that may occur again on Monday and Tuesday particularly in the coastal cities of the emirates, weathermen said. The brief spell of rain and clouds was later quickly replaced by bright sunshine in most areas.
Dr S.K. Gupta, a senior meteorologist at Dubai Met Office, said unsettled weather conditions might continue till Tuesday afternoon. “A bad weather system has developed over the Arabian Gulf waters affecting the weather conditions in the UAE,” he said.
He said winter has arrived and weather conditions are expected to be cooler and more pleasant in the next couple of months. The temperature is expected to remain between 25 to 30 degree Celsius in general with a few degrees variation in case of rain or wind change.
“We still expect some isolated rain in some areas due to the north westerly,” he added. The sea will be rough with four to five feet high waves and sea travellers and fishermen must take precautions.
Dr Gupta said rain had also sparked a three degree drop in the temperature. It was 28 degree Celsius around 12pm in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
